Blog

Dear 80’s Beth,

I’m snagging a brilliant idea from fellow writer Camille Eide when she posed the question: What Would You Say To Little You?

My plan is to do three different blog posts; one to the Beth of the 80’s, 90’s, and 00’s. Without further ado, here’s what I’d like to say to 80’s mini-me:

* Don’t let Mom trim your bangs. Ever.

* You will eventually be allowed to ride your bike past the driveway.

* Your brothers won’t be able to stand the sight of you during this decade. Hold out for the 90’s.

* Get rid of the creepy clown rug.

* Stop playing with Barbies in ’89. That will give you two years of detox prior to middle school. Also stop taking posed pictures of them.

* If your class does a mock election for the presidential candidates, don’t vote for the one you think is the handsomest.

* Never pick a fight with the tooth fairy. That being said, I promise people will eventually stop singing “All I Want for Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth” to you.

Don’t feel bad. I think my mom cut my bangs, too. And that was the least of my problems. hahaha

Oh my dear, dear friend. The bangs and glasses are truly unfortunate. 🙂 The little girl underneath is, of course, beautiful. I must say I’m impressed by your awesomely coordinated pink threads.

haha Those are my strawberry shortcake glasses that I told you about. I think my mom still has them! And I take no credit for the pink because I’m sure it’s all my mom’s fault. 😛

I am shocked that Strawberry Shortcake would give those frames her stamp of approval! She must’ve been feeling a bit tart that day.

I think you’re cute, Beth. And Jen, your picture is &#(*.8j. Sorry, I’m breaking up. &#(*$%#. Can you hear me? I *#$(*&#………………………………..

Remember that the picture of earlier mini-you (full set of teeth) had shorter bangs, so give your mom credit for learning over the years how to cut bangs! The older mini-you (snaggle-tooth look) had bangs down to your eyebrows! Gasp – did you want bangs covering your face???
What was the perfect length for bangs for the mini-Beth of the 80’s? Just asking . . .
